Experience
Before training as a proofreader and setting up Alison Skinner | Proofreading, I worked for thirteen years as a design engineer in the electronics industry. During my engineering career I gained considerable experience working in two markets at opposite ends of the spectrum: state-of-the-art airborne military radar and low-cost commercial components.
These different environments led me to develop a variety of skills that have proved valuable in my career as a proofreader: meticulous attention to detail; being able to organise and prioritise my work in order to successfully meet a deadline; the ability to understand and follow defined requirements (in effect, a brief); and the importance of open, clear and friendly communication with colleagues, customers and suppliers.
I have combined these skills with my proofreading training and academic background to provide a comprehensive proofreading service.
